New petition supports banning fireworks shows past 10 p.m. in Johnstown

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Is 1 a.m. too late for firework shows? While the Fourth of July firework shows are now in the past, what is still present is a growing concern surrounding firework activity in Johnstown. We spoke with community members who are in favor of a new petition that would ban the use of fireworks in Johnstown past 10 p.m. Community members argue that fireworks not only keep people awake but can trigger animals and people who suffer from PTSD.

Plans move forward to build KFC in Johnstown suburb

RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Plans to demolish Hometown Bar & Grill on Scalp Ave. and bring a Kentucky Fried Chicken back to the township are moving forward, according to documents filed with the Zoning and Hearing Board. Ampex Brands filed what’s called a variance application. It’s essentially a request for an exception from township zoning rules. The company wants to build the KFC in the same location as Hometown, but one of the walls is too close to a side street.

Separate Capitol sex tape incident investigated in 2022

WASHINGTON (TND) — The alleged sex tape filmed in the Capitol by a Senate staffer this month is not the first time such an incident has been investigated. A spokesperson for Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., told The National Desk (TND) Thursday a staffer in their office had been investigated for “purported, inappropriate behavior" in June 2022, though “no conclusive evidence” was found. The staffer left Rep. Newhouse's office shortly after the investigation, the spokesperson told TND.

Dog flu vaccine shortage as cases rise

As dog flu cases are going up dog-owners are trying to get their pets vaccinated. The only current manufacturer of canine influenza vaccines, Zoetis, is experiencing some supply disruptions which is worrying local vets about having enough supplies for the season. The CDC states that Canine influenza, or dog flu, is a contagious respiratory disease in dogs caused by specific Type A influenza viruses. Currently, there are two different influenza A dog flu viruses: one is an H3N8 virus and the other is an H3N2 virus.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Jon Kolb says eliminating drama is key to success

DUBOIS — Former Pittsburgh Steelers player Jon Kolb made a visit to DuBois. He served as the grand marshall for the Community Days Firemen's Parade, on June 15. Kolb played offensive lineman for the Steelers from 1969 to 1981. He helped Pittsburgh win four Super Bowl titles. WJAC-TV spoke with Kolb. He gave his thoughts on the current state of the Steelers. Nintendo to unveil Switch successor as profits soar

TOKYO (AP) — Japanese video-game maker Nintendo said Tuesday that it will make an announcement about a successor to its Switch home console sometime before March 2025. In reporting its financial results, Nintendo gave no details about the announcement, including about whether it would launch that successor product during this fiscal year, or just announce its plans for it. "We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.

Police searching for Punxsy man accused of firing shot inside Indiana Co. apartment

Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — State police in Indiana County are searching for a Punxsutawney man following a shots fired incident Thursday night in White Township. Troopers say 27-year-old Storm Armagost is accused of firing one shot at another man during an argument. Investigators say troopers were dispatched around 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting at an apartment along South 3rd Street in White Township. Police say the victim claimed that another man, later identified as Armagost, had reportedly pointed a pistol at him and fired one shot in the direction of his head.

Portage Borough declares snow emergency

PORTAGE, Pa. (WJAC) — A snow emergency has been declared in Portage Borough, officials say. Mayor James Kissell said the snow and ice emergency is effective immediately and will last until 6:00 a.m. Thursday. During this time, the mayor says there will be no parking allowed on any avenues within the borough. Officials say the Portage Borough Winter Parking Ordinance will be strictly enforced by police and parking is not allowed on the even side of the street on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday; and the odd side Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

SCI Huntingdon inmate back in custody after stealing vehicle in escape attempt

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - An inmate is back in custody after he walked off of work detail Friday, police said. According to police, the inmate was on work detail on state Route 26 near the Walmart when he walked off around 12:30 p.m. Department of Corrections identified the inmate as 26-year-old John Adam Bertolette. Police said Bertolette stole a vehicle from a nearby housing development and tried to escape. Troopers began a search and spotted, then stopped the vehicle just south of Marklesburg Borough.

Harrison Ford inspires cast in new comedy 'Shrinking'

NEW YORK (AP) — When Bill Lawrence was developing his new Apple TV+ comedy "Shrinking," he introduced one character in the pilot script as a "Harrison Ford-type" — but never dreamed he would get the real deal. Although the showrunner has had comedy success working with big names and executive-producing hits like "Scrubs," "Cougar Town" and "Ted Lasso," nabbing a huge movie star like Ford seemed unrealistic. But he decided to take a shot and send Ford the script.
