Contracted employee at DuBois Nursing Home tests positive for COVID-19

DUBOIS, Pa. (WJAC) — Officials at DuBois Nursing Home confirmed a contracted employee tested positive for COVID-19. In a letter posted to Facebook, officials at DuBois Continuum of Care Community said the employee was diagnosed with COVID-19 on May 24, after being tested as part of her provider’s protocol. The letter states, she was not symptomatic. The letter said the employee provided services at the facility and has since been excluded there.

Dog park risks closure after founder and president passes away

Somerset County, PA — Jager and Friends Dog Park is a non-profit organization and corporation, in Somerset County. For 13 years its founder Jim Atchison, treasurer Judy Rach, and others managed and maintained the property for the public. The pool was a popular community resource for decades at Bellefonte’s Governors Park, but it was closed a few years ago due to badly needed upkeep. Since then, over a million dollars has been raised, but organizers say the pool's total repair cost is now close to three million dollars.

University Park, PA (WJAC) — A Centre County election challenge regarding the addresses for Penn State students at the University Park campus is being appealed in state court. Dr. Linda Sheckler, of Bellefonte, filed the appeal last week, in state superior court, against the Centre County Board of Elections. Sheckler wants the board to drop close to 350 Penn State students from the county's list of registered voters because the campus dorms, listed as the students' addresses, have now been closed for over two years.

Police said Randall Curley was killed after falling out of the passenger side of an ATV in Clearfield County. The decision was approved during a Tuesday school board meeting at the Philipsburg-Osceola Area School District with a 6 to 3 vote, according to Superintendent Dr. Gregg Paladina. Following the vote, two of the three board members who opposed the motion, Rob Miller and Rob Massung, handed in their resignations, according to Paladina.
