University 'deeply sorry' for mispronouncing students' names at graduation: 'Unfortunate'

PHILADELPHIA (TND) — Thomas Jefferson University apologized Friday for mispronouncing nursing graduates' names during its commencement ceremony. The speaker at the Jefferson College of Nursing incorrectly pronounced several names, including “Thomas,” “Sarah,” “Molly” and “Elizabeth,” as graduates walked across the stage on Thursday. The leadership and faculty of Thomas Jefferson University extend our sincerest apologies for the mispronunciations of the names of several of our graduating nursing students during our recent commencement ceremony,” the school said.

'Softball size rocks' thrown at firefighters battling flames at homeless camp: documents

OLYMPIA, Wash. (KOMO) — A man was arrested after police said he threw "softball size rocks" at firefighters who were responding to an active fire in Washington state. "In the last few weeks there have been several incidents of individuals interfering with Olympia Fire Department personnel responding to emergencies," the Olympia Police Department (OFD) wrote on X Thursday. The suspect was booked for third-degree assault, police said. Charges have also been referred for suspects in other recent incidents, police added.

MI man arrested in connection to decades old rape case on PSU golf course

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities with the Centre County District Attorney's office announced Tuesday that police have made an arrest in connection to a decades-old rape case that reportedly occurred on the Penn State University golf course. According to the "John Doe" affidavit, authorities say on July 27th, 2000, Penn State Police were contacted to investigate an alleged sexual assault that had reportedly occurred on the Penn State Blue Course Golf Course.

New trial date set for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who is accused of killing his wife

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Another trial date has been set for Johnstown man Brian Giles, who is accused of killing his wife several years ago. Giles was initially scheduled to go to trial in March but the case was delayed as his defense awaited the results of a psychological evaluation. In May of 2022, police charged Giles with homicide following a three-and-a-half year investigation into the disappearance and death of his wife Nancy.

Friedens couple waives preliminary hearing in fake pregnancy, baby death case

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A Somerset County couple charged for faking the birth and death of a child back in August waived their preliminary hearing Tuesday. Kaycee and Geoffrey Lang are facing two counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of receiving stolen property after police say the two defendants faked a pregnancy, birth and death in of a baby in July to receive money and gifts. Tuesday, both Kaycee and Geoffrey Lang waived their preliminary hearing.
