Elmora man accused of repeated sexual abuse of young girl

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say an Elmora man is facing sexual assault charges for allegedly abusing a young girl over multiple years. According to a probable-cause affidavit, 36-year-old Robert Hook Jr. reportedly began sexually assaulting the girl in 2021, when she was 11 or 12 years old. The girl told police that the abuse occurred on a weekly basis and ended in May or June of 2023, according to the affidavit.

Pitt-Johnstown announces Athletics Hall of Fame class

JOHNSTOWN — The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown will induct five new members as part of the 13th Athletics Hall of Fame class on Saturday, April 18 in the Pitt-Johnstown Wellness Center. This year’s class includes: Ron Haden '95 (Men’s Basketball), Mike Mastovich '85 (Meritorious Service), Sally Mosay '89 (Women’s Basketball), Brandon Newill '02 (Wrestling), and Ben Watkins '10 (Baseball). Pitt-Johnstown will also recognize all of the former Hall of Fame inductees and former student-athletes in attendance.

Cambria Co. trio accused of endangering children

NORTHERN CAMBRIA, Pa. -- A Cambria County woman, her boyfriend and her brother have been arrested and charged with endangering her three young children. Police said the children, ages 10 and 5, were hit repeatedly, locked in closets and forced to relieve themselves on the floor. Jenna Mulhern, her boyfriend, Matthew D'auria, and her brother, Derek Parenti, are in jail facing several felony charges, accused of endangering Mulhern's two young children.

Huntingdon police K9 to receive donation of body armor

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — The Huntingdon Borough Police Department announced on social media Friday that its K9 unit will be receiving a donation of body armor from a nationally recognized nonprofit. Officials say K9 Tony will soon be equipped with a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The organization, which was established in 2009, says its mission is to "provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

Man charged with aggravated assault on police officer, other charges, police say

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Altoona Police Department made an arrest Monday near Westfall Park and Cemetery. According to police, Christopher Helsel was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, simple assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of law, public drunkenness, and others. Around 1:30 a.m., an APD officer was on patrol and saw three vehicles near the wood line at the top of the cemetery, police said. Since the park and cemetery closed at dusk, the officer attempted to make contact when Helsel, seeming anxious and agitated, walked out of the woods, officials said.

Telehealth, rural physician bills clear committee

WASHINGTON (TCS) — Legislation to make permanent the extension of telehealth services for federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics has passed the Ways and Means Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill of U.S. Rep. Dr. Greg Murphy, R-N.C., and the Rural Physician Workforce Preservation Act he authored are also under consideration by the Committee on Energy and Commerce. “I’m grateful for my colleagues’ support on these bills critical for eastern North Carolina,” Murphy wrote on social media.
