Windber community dresses up as ghosts to set world record

WINDBER -- If you were driving through Windber in Somerset County Saturday afternoon, you may have noticed dozens of people draped in white sheets near the side of the road. That's because more than 200 people attempted to break a Guinness world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as ghosts. The record was first by Sony Pictures in Singapore in June 2016 when 263 people were dressed as ghosts as a part of a red-carpet event for the movie Ghostbusters.

3 men shoot up home, showing 'no regard for human life,' Texas authorities say

SAN ANTONIO (WOAI) — Authorities in Texas released surveillance video that showsthree men shooting up a house. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened Wednesday just after 4 a.m. at a home in San Antonio. The sheriff's office said three young males walked up to the house and opened fire, "showing absolutely no regard for human life." The three suspects are seen taking off in a white or light-colored SUV, possibly a Hyundai Tucson.

Annual Toys for Tots drive raises donations in Johnstown Saturday

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Organizers with Toys for Tots hosted a drive Saturday at the Masonic Temple in Johnstown. People could swing by and drop off their toys, which will be given to children in need throughout the area. Organizers say they're in need of donations this year more than ever. Death of infant in Beaver Co. prompts PSP investigation

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a three-month-old child was pronounced dead in Aliquippa Saturday afternoon. According to state police, Aliquippa Police Department responded to the 200 block of Beaver Avenue for reports of an unresponsive child just after 1:30 p.m. A press release states that the child was transported to Heritage Valley Beaver Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Devastating tornadoes wreak havoc in Ohio, leaving 3 dead and community in ruins

DAYTON, Ohio (TND) — Much of Ohio was battered by severe weather on Thursday night leaving at least four people dead. Three people died of storm-related causes and one died of natural causes, according to the Logan County Sheriff's Office. The National Weather Service confirmed at least six tornadoes so far. The damage and data are still being analyzed, and ratings are subject to change. Jefferson County inmate charged with assaulting corrections officers in jail incident

An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail has been charged with assaulting two corrections officers. According to a probable-cause affidavit, at about 9:18 p.m. on June 4, police say 26-year-old Brandon Geer punched an officer in the head and body multiple times while being detained at the jail. He kicked another officer in the face during the altercation, according to the affidavit. The incident allegedly occurred in a room after Geer covered the security cameras with toothpaste, poured a liquid onto the floor and refused a lockdown order.

Geisinger reports data security breach involving third-party vendor

DANVILLE, Pa (WJAC) — According to a company release, Geisinger announced that a third-party vendor, Blackbaud Inc, which provides "cloud-based data solutions for organizations nationwide, including the Geisinger Foundation," discovered that an "unauthorized" individual gained access to their system between Feb. 7 and May 20. Geisinger health officials say they have already begun notifying patients who may have been affected, but note that Social Security numbers and financial information were NOT stored in the specific database that was targeted.

Ghost Town Trail challenge rescheduled for August

EBENSBURG, Pa (WJAC) — Organizers with the Cambria County Conservation & Recreation Authority (CCCRA) announced that the 5th annual Ghost Town Trail challenge has been rescheduled for August, according to a release. The event was originally scheduled for June 20th, but will now be held on August 22nd, organizers say. “Large scale events like this take months to prepare, and planning for an event in June has too many unknowns at this point in time,” said CCCRA Program Coordinator and race director Caytlin Lusk.
