Indiana man fled scene of fatal Route 119 crash; was found intoxicated at hotel

Indiana County, PA (WJAC) — State police in Indiana County say a local man is behind bars for reportedly causing a fatal crash along Route 119 late Thursday night. Troopers say first responders were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash scene, located in Center Township, around 11:30 p.m. Thursday. According to the affidavit, the driver of one of the vehicles, later identified as 28-year-old Elias Jimenez, of Indiana, had reportedly fled the scene prior to the troopers' arrival.

Woodward-area woman accused of murder claims PTSD, Battered Woman Syndrome

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — The Woodward woman charged with murder now says a mental condition will be part of her defense. That’s the latest in the case involving Brittany Guisewhite, who is accused of stabbing a man to death at her Woodward-area home in April of last year. In a new court filing, Guisewhite's attorney says a doctor could provide expert testimony that she, at the time of the deadly stabbing, was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and would meet the criteria for Battered Woman Syndrome.

Coroner names victim of fatal house fire in Central City

Man dragged by bear following fatal car crash, Massachusetts state police say

HATFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A man who was dragged by a bear following a car crash was most likely dead at the time, Massachusetts State Police said. First responders found the man outside of the car in Hatfield on Sunday morning and saw a bear in the woods nearby, Dave Procopio, a spokesperson for the state police, said in a statement. “Evidence suggests the bear at some point had made contact with the victim’s body,” he said.

Veterans helping veterans at SCI-Houtzdale

HOUTZDALE - The Veterans Service Unit at the State Correctional Institute at Houtzdale is a place filled with men from all backgrounds: the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. But now, they all wear the same uniform. The VSU helps veteran inmates with reentry into society and connects them with the benefits they earned from their service. Chris Reed, the Facility Veterans Coordinator, said the VSU was established in 2016 with just 30 veteran inmates.
