JOHNSONBURG - Volunteers in Elk County are working to make Christmas bright for those struggling in their community.
Volunteer Marissa Amspacher said the program started with a generous donation from a secret Santa to buy gifts for local children.
"Then we thought, what else can we do?" Amspacher said.
Volunteer Colleen Lovell had the idea to create food boxes for local families. After the donations kept rolling in, the Christmas Box Program was formed.
Bedford Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Bedford County have released new details about what led to an 18-hour standoff in Imler last week.
Authorities say on Thursday night, July 7, troopers were dispatched to a residence, located along the 1200 block of Schellsburg Road in Kimmel Township, to serve an extradition warrant for 40-year-old Matthew Lehman.
According to the affidavit, police spoke with 42-year-old Dana Grabill, who told authorities that Lehman was not inside the residence.
FALLSTON, Md. (WBFF) — A woman died after she was trapped under a lawn mower in a drainage ravine, according to the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company (FVFAC).
FVFAC and Harford County Department of Emergency Services EMS Division were dispatched shortly before 5:15 p.m. for a lawn mower accident with traumatic injury.
The incident took place in the 2300 block of Willow Vale Dr. in Fallston.
As personnel responded they were told that the patient was no longer conscious or breathing, according to FVFAC.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — It’s been more than 24 hours since police say one man was shot dead during a fight between two brothers in the Walmart parking lot along Route 119 in Young Township, Jefferson County.
As of Tuesday afternoon, there appears to be no criminal charges against the suspect, and information about what happened remains very limited.

ASHVILLE, Pa. (WJAC) -- A community is still in mourning after a Cambria County teenager, local firefighter and soldier died after a tragic all-terrain vehicle accident.
Police said Cody Maines, 19, was driving on Bem Road late Friday when he lost control and rolled his ATV.

Fire chief Joe Racz said Maines joined the department's junior program when he was 14.
A bill that said student teachers in Pennsylvania will be paid passed through the State House. Lawmakers said they are proposing student teachers get a grant of $10,000 with this bill.
The bill says the grant money would come from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.
It said teachers who take in a student teacher would also be rewarded $2,500.
Officials said there are over 5,000 student teachers in the state each year.

A tiny gator was harassing a 104-year-old woman near her home in Jacksonville on Monday, the sheriff's office says. The five-foot gator caused two officers from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office to respond to the scene near Atlantic Boulevard and Art Museum Drive.
