Fire rages through Williamsport recycling plant for nearly 24 hours

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (WJAC) — A fire that broke out at a Lycoming County recycling facility has been burning since Monday afternoon, according to authorities. According to NBC affiliate WBRE, the fire began at the Penn Recycling plant in Williamsport sometime around 2:30 p.m. Fire crews were reported to still be fighting the flames into Tuesday afternoon. The flames broke out in a debris pile of old car parts. According to WBRE, the pile is four stories high and about the size of a football field.

NH sex offender accused of exposing himself at Penn State library

University Park, PA (WJAC) — A homeless man is behind bars in Centre County after he allegedly exposed himself to a woman at a Penn State library. Police say on Wednesday night, 35-year-old Brandon Taylor allegedly watched pornographic material on a computer at the Pattee Library. Police say Taylor then reportedly exposed himself to a woman and asked multiple times for her to perform a sex act on him. Police say Taylor is also a registered sex offender in New Hampshire and that he failed to notify authorities that he is in Pennsylvania.

Investigators remember nearly 40-year-old murder case featured in series

LOGAN TOWNSHIP -- Betty Jean Shade's murder is something former investigators won't forget, and it's now featured in a Netflix series about FBI profiling. "Shade was last seen alive on First Avenue in Altoona on Tuesday, May 29. She left her babysitting job around 10 that night and proceeded to walk home to 1410 Fourth Street about a mile away," former 6 News reporter Barbara Allen said in 1979. Allen and former 6 News photographer Larry Field covered the story, and Field said he still remembers everything about it.

Protesters arrested at Portland State University in court on trespass, other charges

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Dozens of protesters who were arrested in connection with the pro-Palestinian protests at Portland State University made their first court appearances Friday, many of them pleading not guilty to criminal trespass and an array of other charges. Police arrested 30 people Thursday as officers in riot gear cleared protesters who had staged an occupation inside the school’s Millar Library. Seven of those arrested were PSU students.

Steelers trade for Bears QB Justin Fields

PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have acquired now former Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, the team announced Saturday. Fields was the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and started 38 total games for the Bears. In three seasons with Chicago, Fields has a career completion percentage of 60.3, along with 40 passing touchdowns and 14 rushing touchdowns. In exchange for Fields, the Bears received a conditional 6th round pick in next year's draft.

Woman at center of alleged murder-for-hire plot has lengthy criminal history

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Following her arrest earlier this week in an alleged murder-for-hire plot, 6 News began looking into Heather Dibert’s lengthy criminal history, which dates back the past few decades. According to online court documents, she has been charged with assault, threats, and thefts over the years. One of her cases, from march of 2012, involved a woman named Fawn Mountain. Fawn Mountain is a Blair County woman who disappeared in November of 2012.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (TND) — A Christian leader is in critical condition after being shot in the head while preaching on an Arizona street. Hans Schmidt, 26, was reportedly preaching from the Bible using a megaphone on a street corner in Glendale Wednesday night, something he had done many times before. Schmidt also works as the outreach director at Victory Chapel First Phoenix, a local church. Paul Sanchez, a witness who works nearby, reportedly said he saw a car pass Schmidt while people inside screamed and cussed at him.
