Somerset County, PA — Fewer than 1 thousand people have ran the ultramarathon that a young woman from our area has just completed. Kaylee Frederick of Johnstown finishing the race in 40 hours. She started the race on July 4th at 8 PM.
The race is 135 miles long, hence the title, with peaks thousands of feet high, and stretches of desert in between. Temperatures soaring over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. As of July 6th, Frederick is the youngest person to complete it, at 18 years old.
Westmoreland County, PA — Authorities in Westmoreland County say a Boswell man who pleaded guilty to fatally striking a bicyclist in Ligonier Township nearly four years ago has been sentenced. Officials with the Westmoreland County District Attorney's office say Adam Ulrich, now age 45, was sentenced Tuesday to spend 5 to 10 years in prison.
Ulrich was charged in June of 2021 following an investigation into a fatal vehicle versus bicycle crash on Route 30 in October of 2019.
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — The start of hurricane season is a few short weeks away, and officials are working to make sure they’re prepared for this season’s storms.
Over 3,500 Florida Power and Light employees have been working on a mock hurricane simulation all week as if a Category 4 hurricane hit South Florida with Thursday morning being the time of landfall.
They're calling the storm Hurricane Benito. The simulation is meant to test employees' responses as if there was an actual hurricane.

ALTOONA, Pa. (WJAC) -- The Altoona Mobile Emergency Department, or AMED, handles over 22,000 calls a year, covering 420 square miles from five stations. Department officials said they're out of space in their administrative offices. One of their stations is forced to work out of a storage room at Lakemont Park, but an upgrade is on the way.

ADDISON TOWNSHIP - Surveillance footage captured two men breaking into the Anchor In Restaurant and Bar Sunday.
Around 5 a.m., owners said two men entered the restaurant and bar through a back door.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden has tapped Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine to be his assistant secretary of health, leaving her poised to become the first openly transgender federal official to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
Dr. Rachel Levine was appointed to her current position by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf in 2017, she is a pediatrician and former PA physician general. Levine is one of the few transgender people serving in elected or appointed positions nationwide.
UNIVERSITY PARK - Television stalwart and Penn State graduate Donald P. Bellisario has made a $30 million endowment to the College of Communications.
In appreciation of the gift, Penn State officials have renamed the College of Communications to the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications.
The $30 million gift, which is one of the five largest ever made in the university's history, has allowed officials to start planning to build a new media center that will also hold Bellisario's namesake.
Johnstown, Pa. (WJAC) — Some Johnstown natives say Lorain Park was their go-to hang out spot back in the day.
"We would bring some snacks and come up here and hang out, and of course, watch all of our friends play baseball,” said Cambria County resident Debbie Grove.
Sunday afternoon, something new was officially added to that park for future generations: the Lorain-Stonycreek Hiking Trails.
Lorain Borough Mayor Michael Hammers says creating the trails took about eight months.
